44-year-old female, hypermenorrhoea causing anaemia; palpation reveals an enlarged, nodular uterus. Diagnostic curettage. Completed family planning and decision for hysterectomy.
- Within the myometrial musculature a well demarcated node can be seen consisting of proliferating smooth muscle cells.
- Growth in bundles or whirls, in between areas of fibrosed or myxoid loosened connective tissue.
- The nuclei are elongated and often well visible but the nucleoli are not enlarged.
- Mitoses are scarce.
