35-year-old female with type I diabetes mellitus and diabetic microangiopathy with terminal renal failure. Nephrectomy prior to planned transplantation (done for technical reasons)
- All glomeruli show extensive nodular increase of the mesangial matrix with capillary slings and thickened basal membranes (arteriolohyalinosis)
- Similar hyaline deposits can be found in the walls of the arterioles and small arteries.
- There is also a mild vascular scar formation in the cortex area. Accordingly there is pronounced arteriosclerosis.
