2-year-old boy. Rapidly growing tumour in abdomen, radiologically extending from right kidney. Nephrectomy.
1. Malignant embryonal kidney tumour originating from cells of metanephrogenic blastem. Often displays a triphasic pattern consisiting of blastic, epithelial and stromal components.
2. Solid, poorly differentiated tumour predominantly consisiting of small cells with little cytoplasm (blastem cells). Sections of tumour form primitive tubular structures, sometimes also glomeruloid structures (epithelial components).
3 The third stromal component consists of spindle cells, fibroblasts, smooth and striated myocytes.
