- Inflamed foci with partly granulomatous inflammation throughout the kidney.
- The centre contains some changed and degenerating tubuli, corresponding to canalicular propagation of infection.
- Next to this is a large cavernous area, which is characteristically lined by an epithelioid granuloma and contains giant cells.
- The remaining renal tissue shows atrophy and an intersitital fibrosis, especially in the periglomerular areas
