15-year-old boy. Sudden onset of frontal headache, meningism and severe pyrexia. Death due to circulatory failure.
The autopsy revealed diffuse clouding of the arachnoidea and pia mater of both cerebral hemispheres.
- Dense accumulation of polymorphous leucocytes in the subarachnoidal space accompanied by a fibrinous exudate (leptomeningitis)
- The inflammation does not extend to the brain tissue (yet), i.e. this is only a case of meningitis and not of menigoencephalitis.
