6-year-old female, tumourous swelling in the thigh. Biopsy.
- Relatively regularly structured tumour tissue with lobe formation of mild to moderate cell density
- Capillary net throughout myxoid ground substance. Microcystic loosening possible.
- Especially along the capillaries there are small spindle-shaped tumour cells with round to oval nuclei of moderate chromatin density. Few mitoses. At the border of the tumour lobe there are round cells with vacuoles which displace the nucleus (lipoblasts).
A common variant of liposarcoma. Locally aggressive, infiltrative, high recurrence but low risk of metastases (grade I). Round-celled liposarcoma is much more malignant (grade III).
