- Pleomorphic tumour tissue of increased perivascular cell density with nodular growth.
- The tumour is made up of spindle cells and multinucleated, partly bizarre giant tumour cells.
- Generally extensive cell and nuclear polymorphism with many atypical mitoses
- The spindle cells form collagenous fibres or excrete a myxoid substance.
Previously known as myxoid malignant fibrous histiocytoma (Myxoid MHF), myxofibrosarcoma is one of the most commonly occurring soft tissue sarcomas in the older patient and is classified as a fibroblastic differentiated neoplasia according the latest WHO classification (WHO 2002).
