24-year-old male, painful swelling of the 9th rib, suffered from influenza infection with severe cough 4 weeks previously,partial rib resection
- Transversely running fracture and bordering devitalised bone.
- Periosteal and intramedullary callus: Normal, partly mineralised bone substance forming arcades (periosteum) and trabeculae (in the medulla), rimmed by osteoblasts.
Attention: Be careful not to misdiagnose as an osteosarcoma (refer to specimen S
IX 9) in tissue fragments obtained by biopsy and unclear clinical findings. Medical history is important!
