80-year-old male. Death following metastatic prostate cancer. Incidental
finding on autopsy: scar in the left cardiac apex with triple vessel
disease.
- In all wall layers the myocardium is penetrated by clusters of
collagenous connective tissue (red).
- bBordering the scar are clusters of degenerated muscle fibres
(partly with macrophages)
- Inner layer: the endocardium is fibrous and thickened, a rim of
remaining muscle fibres remains. Enclosing individual vessels in
inner layer are islands of remaining muscle fibres.
