50-year-old female, few months' history of increasing shortness
of breath, especially during the night. Syncope.
An echo reveals a globular tumour in the left atrium.
The operative specimen is oval-shaped, maximal diameter 3 cm, smooth
surface, cut surface glassy, laced with blood
- Partly basophilic, poorly structured substance, penetrated by
vessels and vessel proliferation, small star-shaped cell complexes,
macrophages (partly iron loaded) and erythrocytes
- Smooth surface, incomplete endothelium
