48-year-old male, death due to cardiac tamponade due to large anterolateral
myocardial infarction with rupture, occlusion of the proximal segment
of the circumflex artery
Autopsy specimen
- The overview is difficult to assess since blood dominates and
invades broken intima
- The intima is irregularly expanded by an amorphous mass with cholesterol
crystals.
- On one side: in the atheroma, blood mixed with foam cells and
cholesterol needles
- On the opposite side: content of atheroma (cholesterol and foam
cells) within the thrombus
- In contrast to specimens SIII8 and 9, the atrophy in some parts
of the media is so advanced that the intima and adventitia are almost
adjacent.
