48-year-old female, death after road traffic accident

- The lobe architecture is maintained but partially disrupted by pericentral fibrosis from which connective tissue septa extend and partially reach the portal fields.
- The majority of hepatocytes contain tryglycerides which lie freely in the cytoplasm and displace the cytoplasm as well as the cell nucleus towards the cell membrane (optically empty vacuoles)
- Sponge-like fatty deposits: triglycerides located freely in cytoplasm
- Only in zone 1 are there some non fatty hepatocytes which represent an incomplete border against the portal fields
- Central acinar mesh fibrosis as well as several ballooned cells in the pericentral zone which contain Mallory-bodies point towards alcoholic origin.
