63-year-old male. Alternating constipation and diarrhoea with bloody
stools. Endoscopy shows an ulcer in the sigmoid colon with wide
- Cross section through the colon. A tubular, well to moderately
differentiated adenocarcinoma which ulcerates the mucosa and extends
into the muscularis propria makes up approximately half of the circumference.
There is no penetration of the muscle layer.
If no lymph node metastases are found the classification would
be a Duke Stage B 1 (according to the modified classification of
Astler and Coller, 1954)
