- Bordering the cortex, the medulla exhibits a circumscribed hypoeosinophilic area.
- At higher magnification, the hypoeosinophilic area is surrounded by an edematous zone.
- Within the hypoeosinophilic area capillary proliferations, reactive astrocytes and some foamy macrophages can be observed
