76-year-old male suffered from left ventricular heart failure due to hypertension (specimen from autopsy).
- The capillaries are distended and engorged with blood.
- Alveolar septae are widened due to edema.
- Alveolar spaces are filled with amorphous, eosinophilic edema fluid.
- Alveolar exudate contains few cells, mostly alveolar macrophages.
Inflammatory exudates stain more intensely due to the higher protein content.
