73-year-old male underwent revision of a surgical scar of the abdominal wall.
- Skin excision is covered by intact, unremarkable epidermis.
- At the edges, the connective tissue of the dermis is composed of collagenous and elastic fibers.
- In the center a fibrotic area is seen which encompasses the entire dermis and part of the subcutis and is composed exclusively of variably sized horizontally aligned collagenous fibers that are partly hyalinized.
- In the scar tissue conspicuous absence of skin adnexa and elastic fibers.
